Panera Signage variance requested

During its regular Aug. 29, 2019 meeting, the Forney Board of Adjustments met to consider a variance for Panera.

  • Approved variances to the sign regulations of Section 48 of the City of Forney Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, requested by Panera Bread, located at 680 E. Highway 80.
        Mr. Dixon briefed the board: Panera wants 59 sq. ft. signs on what is considered the sides of the building, ordinance allows 15 sq. ft.   This will be a stand-alone building.  
        Rep. from Barnett Signs was present, said at 15 sq. ft. the sign wouldn't be visible, and too small to manufacture.   Mr. Dixon said the sign approved by staff for the front is the same 59 sq. ft.
        There was a discussion about new language on the agenda item: Mr. Dixon said the new language is now being included, can be used if the exceptions in 48.19 aren't met.   There was discussion about the 15 sq. ft. restriction.   The sign rep. said he's never seen such a low size limit.
        There was no public input.
        After brief discussion, the board agreed the required 3 of 4 exceptions were easily met.
