Parks Board building Pinson Farm Committee

During its regular Sep. 20, 2017 meeting, the Forney City Park Board met and:

• Acting Chair Kim Welch opened the meeting.
  
• Public Comments: Joyce Stanglin and Pat Wilson were both present and expressed interest in being on the Pinson Farm Planning Committee.
  
• The board then selected James Hatley as chair and Thomas Anich as vice-chair.
  
• Mr. Curry spoke about the Pinson Farm Planning Committee, which was previously set to consist of 2 board members, 2 Forney Historic Preservation League members, and 3 citizen ad-hoc members. Six citizens have applied, Charles Beason and Jimmy Roland will be the FHPL members. The board wants staff to advertise for additional applicants, for two weeks.
  
• Mr. Curry met with youth sports groups, all are in favor of moving forward with the Positive Coaching Alliance program.
  
• Department reports: Ms. Witt said they replaced an electrical circuit in Mulberry Park, and replaced some broken trail lights - things going pretty smooth. Mr. Curry said all three of them will be gone next week to National Parks & Recreation Conference.
  Ms. Beasely said Sep. 30 is FHS homecoming parade starting at 9AM, Bois d'Arc will be temporarily opened, no semi's or trailers over 25ft allowed; Oct. 7 is animal shelter grand opening; a benefit 5k on Oct 14; Oct. 28 Trail of Treats, 4-6 pm with sunset movie, there is a Facebook poll for which movie; will be an ice rink in the park Nov. 24 - Jan. 2, hours might be 4-9 weekdays, 10-10 weekends, $10 skate fee which includes skates. About 150 people can be on the rink, staff still deciding on day passes vs. 2 hour passes. The total cost including promotion will be $150k, expected revenue from sponsorships and fees is $65k. The company will provide all staff. There was some discussion of resident discounts. Ms. Enloe pointed out some city residents are on different water systems, don't get a city water bill. Hockey, broomball and curling were mentioned, mostly in jest. Christmas in the Park: Dec. 2 in the park, with a small lighted parade, preferably with smaller vehicles; downtown tree lighting on Dec. 1.
